Contemporary Caribbean Architecture at It's Finest at Mangwana
Mangwana is a dramatic example of the 21st century's new generation of highly engineered Caribbean architecture, set in a truly spectacular location.
With concept design by British-based architect Jake Edgley, who trained with internationally renowned Sir Norman Foster, this outstanding property has a spacious, relaxing atmosphere making it uniquely suited for a sophisticated yet informal, Caribbean vacation with family or friends.
Based on the Moorish principle of using water as a central feature, most of the rooms lead directly off the elegant pool, making Mangwana spacious, cool and airy yet surprisingly intimate. Looking south from a height of 600 ft down over the jewel-like southern Grenadines, the pool has simply amazing views all around.
Situated at the top of Friendship Heights, Mangwana offers one of the most breathtaking locations on Bequia.
From the wooden sun deck at treetop level, guests have a captivating 300 degree view encompassing Battowia and Balliceaux to the east, Mustique (only six miles away) to the southeast, the entire south Grenadines and Bequia's own leeward side with It's beautiful beaches. You could spend your entire vacation watching the ever-changing effects of light on the reefs below, the ebb and flow of the ocean, and the passage of the sun, moon and clouds over the bays and lush hills of Bequia to the distant islands beyond. Watch the sunrise directly from your bed or the sunset from the west facing balconies with a cool sundowner in hand.
You enter Mangwana at mezzanine level directly into a vast living area with vaulted ceiling, open- plan kitchen and magnificent 16 ft high Brazilian hardwood doors which in turn open onto the pool and frame one of the villa's many stunning views. The villa also enjoys a spacious south-west facing shaded terrace with BBQ and a peaceful walled garden.
Mangwana is a family house with ample opportunities for fun and action. It has It's own games room and TV room with large flat screen TV. Amenities include table tennis, table football, a rowing machine and massage table, plus an area for petanque (boules) in the grounds below.
There is a safety net available to screen the pool from small children should parents prefer.
Six wonderful Bedrooms
Mangwana's six cool and breezy bedrooms are large and versatile. Two have king-sized beds whilst the remaining four have twin beds, all of the twins can be locked together as doubles. Five of the six bedrooms have their own en suite bathrooms; two of them open up to the night skies. All bedrooms have their own private balcony, some overlooking the pool, others looking outwards over the ever-changing seascape.
Private Guest Wing
Mangwana also has a private guest wing with It's own kitchen and laundry room and two large balconies with breathtaking views.
Quiet and peaceful with exhilarating views
Located high above Bequia, Mangwana is exceptionally quiet and peaceful, yet it is still just a ten minute drive to the shops, bars and restaurants of Port Elizabeth and the beaches of Lower Bay, Princess Margaret Bay and Friendship Bay.
Walled Garden with Lawn
There is a beautiful walled garden with nice lawn, perfect for children at play. The gardens in general have matured and offer a natural contrast to this stunning villas crisp facade.
A car is recommended for this property and so is therefore included Complementary with Mangwana's vacation package.
The Grenadines Collection are pleased to present this exceptional new property to you. Seeing really is believing to fully appreciate Mangwana's unique blend of privacy and space, tranquillity and drama, nature and architecture, all in a spectacular setting.
A Warm welcome for guests
Guests are usually greeted and introduced to the property by the owners themselves - this is unusual in today's age of characterless villa rentals and this personal welcome is a wonderful starting point. The owners are not far away should you need assistance beyond that of the Property Manager.

A central hilly area, Mount Pleasant enjoys a perfect combination of breezy elevation, rolling landscape, and access down to the beaches on both the Atlantic and Caribbean side and to the harbour town of Port Elizabeth. A very civilized retreat to enjoy Bequia from. Traditionally home of the islanders with roots in the French settlers, this is a long established residential location often with breathaking panoramic views.
Guest Reviews"The property itself is absolute luxury... We believe we have found the absolute epitome of an incredible villa in an unbelievable setting here at Mangwana." Mr K US October 2010
"'Mangwana!'. The house is easily the most stunning building we have ever stayed in - the main room is like a cathedral! The views from each of the balconies must be some of the best and most relaxing in the world; it feels as though you're looking across an entire ocean." May / June Guest Review 2010
Just returned today from a week's stay at Mangwana on Bequia, which we were lucky enough to win in a contest. So sad to have left. The villa is stunning with what are probably the best views on the island. The pool is fabulous and the rooms well thought out and easy to keep cool on hot sticky nights. Everything is provided - a well equipped kitchen for groups who like to cook, a tv and games room. The island itself is a true taste of the real Caribbean -no major soulless resorts, friendly people working for a living who always say hi when you pass. Restaurants and beaches are tremendous and food is reasonably priced - fish is the main staple, caught fresh daily, but bear in mind a lot of foods have to be imported so may cost more then you are used to paying. All in all a fabulous trip and a highly recommended place to stay. We will be returning.

Tower House is sited on a steep hillside on the island of Bequia, in the Caribbean. The design is inspired by traditional Moroccan courtyard houses, where a series of intimate spaces surround water, providing shelter from the sun throughout the day and cooling humidity from the pool.
"We are loving it here and feeling very much like we have come to the right place. your home and location is superb, and the island's style and culture is really special as you know"
M K & Family, August 2010
My family and I have spent a lot of time going to beautiful places in the world and staying in lovely accommodation. However, we believe we have found the absolute epitome of an incredible villa in an unbelievable setting here at Mangwana. The first thing that you notice is the view – so incredible you feel like you are living in a postcard. From every angle it’s spectacular and we have seen some of the most beautiful sunsets here we have ever seen anywhere. From high up on the hill you can watch the weather roll through and we have spent many pleasant days doing this. The property itself is absolute luxury. There is every modern convenience you could need. Our children loved the games room, and we loved watching movies in the TV room at night. The pool is set off the living space and is a beautiful place to admire the view from, or soak up the relaxing atmosphere.
The design of the property blends inside and outside living, with cool breezes blowing through on even the hottest day.
We also appreciate that any queries or minor concerns we had, were addressed immediately, either by Grenadine Villas, the property owner, or Mangwana’s wonderful housekeeper – Kathy. We feel so priviledged to have had such a wonderful time here for the last 3 months and sincerely hope we will return again. Thank you so much.

"I just wanted to drop you a line to say how much we enjoyed our stay at 'Mangwana'. The house is easily the most stunning building we have ever stayed in - the main room is like a cathedral! The views from each of the balconies must be some of the best and most relaxing in the world; it feels as though you're looking across an entire ocean. Also the breeze is divine, keeping you cool even on the hottest afternoon - along with the perfect infinity pool. We can't wait to visit again; our kids are still pining for the beaches and papayas"
