Carriacou: Unspoilt Island Paradise
This island is just 13 miles square with a tiny population of just under 5000 and one of the larger of the Grenadines close to Grenada. The island is relatively undeveloped although there is an airport and a selection of vacation rental properties scattered around the bays and hillsides. A well kept secret, very popular with the ailing fraternity Carriacou has a great deal to offer as a vacation destination.
There is a busy bus route which locals and tourists enjoy, dollar taxis, car rental companies, a harbour and airport. Many visitors arrive by boat.
Paradise Beach as its name suggests is a beautiful stretch of clear fine powder sand, popular with locals at the weekend but often deserted during the week. This is the nearest beach to L'Esterre but the island is surrounded by stunning beaches and due to the size of Carriacou no one is ever very far away from the ocean.
Sailing & Snorkeling
The Carriacou Regatta, held on the first weekend in August, is a racing event for locally built boats. In 2005, the Regatta celebrated its 40th anniversary. Due to the crystal clear waters this is also a world class location for snorkelling, diving & swimming.
Sustained Growth in Grenada Tourism
Carriacou is located close to Grenada and has a very active tourism sector and is predicted by the World Travel & Tourism Council to be the fastest growing market in the Caribbean between 2011 and 2021.The island welcomed over 116,000 visitors in 2011 Grenada handles her global touristic appeal well and enjoys ease of access with direct flights from the UK, Europe, Canada and the US.
Carriacou, the second largest island in the Caribbean nation of Grenada, has on its eastern shores, L'Esterre Bay. Characterised by colourful clapboard houses, and a creole influence L'Esterre Bay features Paradise Beach, as its name suggests a fine, sandy beach fringed with sea almond and grape trees. With few waves and turquoise shallow waters this is perfect for families.
