Legend has it that 150 years ago the Caribs -- the original inhabitants of the region -- traded the island for a stallion owned by the then British Administrator, Governor Young, hence the origin of the island's name. Located just 200 yards from the shore of St Vincent, Young Island is a private island resort with some of the best beaches and hospitality in the area.
Guest ReviewsI had my honeymoon there - it was like a dream there. The food is out of this world. I couldn't stop eating. The drinks were potent but delicious and the staff fantastic. It made the honeymoon that much more special. The rooms were so clean and comfortable I wish I could move there. If you want a treat this is the place to go! P.S. The spa treatments were an extra bonus Islandsenorita, TripAdvisor, 16 Mar 2010
My wife and I have travelled the Carribean, Ireland, Paris, etc and have finally found paradise. We've cruised the Grenadines for many years and like to end off with a week in a hotel. It begins with their own private boat ride across the few minute cruise, from the mainland of St Vincent to their private island. St Vincent is not noted for its sandy beaches but the small one at Young island is terrific. I snorkled on the island's reef and was amazed by the different fish. Sitting in a chair by the lagoon swimming pool listening to the squawk of the endangered, caged, St Vincent parrots and the lush vegetation you really do feel that you are in the Garden of Eden. The tastefully decorated rooms, especially on the beach all have terraces. Forsake the air conditioning. There is a constant breeze. No bugs and all windows have screens. For those who want the 4 star attention and luxury but a still very quiet, natural and unspoiled this is the spot When there take a short walk over to the other side of the island. What is unique about Young Island is that it has been left in it's nearly original state. As I walked around the island I thought I would encounter Lord Nelson or at least see "Victory" moored in the bay. The views are spectacular. Now the food. It's not only that the service and presentation are excellent but the size of each of the many courses is not overwhelming. There is no better restaurant food in St Vincent than at Young Island, and I've tried them all. Each of the six nights we were there there was a different choice on the menu. It starts with a slice of their own baked bread....but there are 6 different loaves to choose from! You will not be disappointed with the food. ( A trick I do is request fish cooked 1 minute less than normal as the tendency in St Vincent is to overcook fish) The friendlyness of the staff is charming and unique. St Vincent is not a well developed tourist location but the people are proud of their heritage and will warm to you if you engage them. Others complain about the loud music across the cut on the mainland but that's life in the Grenadines. St Vincent is not Disneyland, it's the real thing.
