Villa Horizon Rodney Bay, St Lucia, St Lucia
- 2 Bedrooms
- 3 Bathrooms
- 1 Acres
- 2870 Sq Ft
- FOR SALE
There is no doubt that 'Horizon' is perfectly named. This unique home was built in 1989 to the highest German specifications and standards by ex-patriot owners who made Saint Lucia their adopted home from then until recently.
Located on an acre of slightly elevated manicured grounds, Horizon is steps away from Saint Lucia's most popular beach and offers panoramic views from the north side of Mount Pimard across the arc of Rodney Bay to the colourful gardens of this serene but central neighbourhood.
An attractive stone wall and wrought iron fence surrounds the villa, which is best described as late 20th century European chalet style with contemporary Caribbean design influences.
The exterior of the house has stone tiling and wooden architectural details, a pristine wooden shingle roof and modern glass windows protected by effective metal shutters, which have proven more than effective in tropical weather conditions for thirty years.
A covered carport and concrete staircase lead to the upper floor and main residence, comprising of a very spacious open plan living and dining layout.
Full-length sliding windows allow for 270 degree panoramic vistas and invite the cooling trade winds to sweep through, while cleverly designed cathedral ceilings offer additional ventilation, making the tropical style ceiling fans almost unnecessary.
With plenty of space for casual lounge seating, a quiet reading nook and a home office, there is a formal dining area adjacent to the well-appointed kitchen which includes cherry wood built-in cabinetry, sleek faux granite counters and high end European stainless steel appliances.
Modern glass and metal louvre windows allow for ventilation and weatherproof security and there is a back door leading to an exit staircase and breakfast balcony overlooking the garden.
The unusual Master Suite is encased within curved walls off the main living area and offers another unique feature of the home.
The king-sized bedroom takes advantage of the cone-shaped pinnacle of the roof-line, while a curved dropped ceiling allows for air-conditioning in the spacious walk-in closet and en suite bathroom with retro-style double vanity and bright, spacious shower. Its curved lines extend to the louvred doors of a convenient powder room and other storage closets, rendering an attractive flow to the entire design.
On the ground floor of the home, there is a very private, self-contained studio flat which opens onto the garden with outdoor seating. The en suite bathroom has a modern glass shower and solid slab Corian wall detail.
Several connecting rooms on the ground floor, including shower/toilet and kitchenette, are suitable for staff quarters or could be converted into an additional apartment. There is also a laundry room and outdoor covered hanging area.
A large, circular gazebo with built-in barbecue is situated in the garden, offering serene views and a breezy entertaining spot, while celebrating Horizon's origins and offering a conversation starter with a cast iron floor inlay.
To the rear of the utility area is a custom-built greenhouse table and a highly reliable domestic water filtration system and storage tank enclosed in a hurricane-proof stone 'igloo'. The solid concrete drainage system on the property has a stellar record in dealing with the run off from heavy rains.
The well-established grounds boast rolling green lawns and a number of fruit trees and abundant flowering shrubs, as well as a decades old cactus garden which has spectacular specimens almost as high as the house itself.
